The farmhouse had stood for three centuries before the clients arrived. Our brief was precise: design a kitchen that has always been here. That meant in-frame construction, hand-planed timber, the kind of painted finish that takes fifteen years to look its best, and a Belfast sink large enough for a game bird.
The cabinets are solid European oak frames with hand-painted shaker doors in a custom off-white that shifts between cream and bone depending on the light. Brass hinges, hand-forged drawer pulls and a recessed Aga surround form the hardware programme — everything aged or aged in intention. The central island is a thick slab of reclaimed pitch pine, worn and oiled, designed to take the marks of cooking without apology.
