Scope
Full kitchen, larder and boot room, in-frame cabinetry, Rayburn installation, reclaimed timber
An old farmhouse on the North Yorkshire Moors required a kitchen unafraid of mud, dogs, and children. Ivory painted in-frame cabinetry, a Rayburn at its heart, thick stone flags underfoot, and an island hewn from reclaimed oak beams salvaged from the barn that previously occupied the same yard. The room is beautiful because it is honest.
The reclaimed oak island required the work of a structural engineer — the beams were load-bearing for over a century and came with the marks of it. We chose to preserve every mark rather than plane them out. The Rayburn drives the underfloor heating for the adjacent boot room and the towel rails in the room above. Nothing is wasted.
