Scope
Kitchen design, lacquered cabinetry, waterfall island, integrated lighting, installation
A West End Glasgow apartment with ceilings at four metres demanded a kitchen that met the scale of the room. Black matte lacquer cabinetry runs the full height; the island is a waterfall slab of Grey Emperor marble that turns the floor without a join. The brief was a single image of a kitchen in Tokyo. The result is better.
The integrated lighting strip runs the full length of the upper cabinets — a single warm-white line that defines the ceiling plane without interrupting it. Floating shelves in smoked oak float against the black to break the monolith. The marble was matched from a single block at the yard — the veining continues across the island top and both waterfall legs as one unbroken composition.
